Keeping fit

Many blogs about retirement have a focus on one of two areas: money or health. I consider myself very fortunate that I don’t have particular worries about either. We have an excellent financial adviser who we have trusted for many years to help with finding mortgages or investing any spare cash we’ve accumulated. So I don’t read any blogs with information about investments or other complex financial matters.

With regard to health, I accept again that I am immensely fortunate. The only times I have been admitted to hospital during my lifetime were to give birth to three healthy sons and, in more recent times, to undergo a cataract operation which revolutionised my sight after a lifetime of extreme myopia.

Magazines with a target audience of the elderly are full of advertisements for brighter reading lamps, chairs which aid standing up and baths which eliminate the stresses and strains of getting in and out of the relaxing waters. I am not being complacent. Perhaps the time will come when I need to avail myself of these aids. Meanwhile, I’ll carry on swimming ( very gently) twice a week and try to master more of the moves in my weekly Pilates class. If any reader has suggestions for keeping agile, do share them!
